It’s Friday… and somewhere in your house there’s probably a job you’ve walked past at least five times this week thinking, “I really need to get that sorted.” 👀

Today, Thursday 24 September, is World Maritime Day — recognising the people and industries that keep goods moving around the world by sea. With Worthing sitting right on the coast, it feels particularly fitting to mark it here at FHH. 🌊🚢

👀🏠 SPOT THE PROBLEM WEDNESDAY — YOUR DOOR SHOULDN’T NEED A SHOULDER BARGE!

Does this sound familiar?

🚪 You have to lift the handle harder than you used to
🔑 The key only turns if you push or pull the door
😤 You have to give the door a good shove before it locks
👀 There’s an uneven gap around the frame
🔧 The handle or locking mechanism feels stiff

It’s tempting to think “the lock must be going” — but the problem can simply be that the door has dropped slightly or the locking points are no longer lining up correctly with the keeps.

Ignoring it and continually forcing the handle can put unnecessary strain on the locking mechanism and potentially turn an adjustment into a more expensive repair.

🔍 TODAY’S 30-SECOND CHECK: Close your external doors normally and try the handles and locks. They should operate smoothly without force.

💡🔧 TIP TUESDAY — DON’T LET A SMALL DRAUGHT COST YOU ALL WINTER!

With autumn settling in, now is a great time to check your UPVC windows and doors before the colder weather arrives. 🍂

Here’s today’s quick FHH test:

🪟 Close each window and run your hand around the frame — can you feel cold air coming through?
🚪 Check external doors for movement or gaps around the seals
🔐 Make sure handles and locks operate smoothly without needing excessive force
👀 Look for flattened, damaged or missing rubber gaskets
💧 Check for signs of moisture around the inside of frames

A draught doesn’t automatically mean you need a new window or door. Worn seals, alignment issues, hinges and locking mechanisms can often be repaired or adjusted.

That could mean a warmer home without the expense of replacing perfectly serviceable windows. 👍

Today, 17 September, is World Patient Safety Day, an annual global awareness day led by the World Health Organization.

This year’s message is “Safe care for life!”, focusing on safe, high-quality care for people living with long-term health conditions.

Today isn’t a day for a sales message.

Instead, FHH Property Services would simply like to recognise the incredible work carried out every day by doctors, nurses, carers, paramedics, pharmacists, support staff and everyone else involved in keeping people safe and cared for.

And to anyone living with a long-term health condition, supporting somebody who is, or navigating ongoing treatment — today’s message is for you too. 🧡
