I think there are many reasons why shared living has a positive impact. But this point in particular stuck with me.
🏠
Not everyone has two incomes helping pay the bills.
🏠
And I think sometimes when we automatically oppose all shared housing or HMOs, we forget who often struggles the most with housing affordability… single people.
🏠
Young workers. People relocating. People starting again after divorce. People rebuilding their lives. People trying to save for their own place.
🏠
A couple on two incomes can often compete for housing far easier than one person paying for everything alone.
🏠
That doesn’t mean all HMOs are good but I do think professionally run co-living can and does play a really important role in providing affordable housing options for people who otherwise may struggle to live independently.
🏠
Id also like to say that this point was something i discussed with (or vann discredit with me more like 😅) who i respect as an expert in the hmo field and by raising and sharing these points im hopeful we can slowly give hmos a better name.
