Did you know Ghana runs on two systems of authority at once? One is the elected government in Accra. The other is far older, a living network of chiefs whose influence never actually faded: Chieftancy.

Chieftaincy in Ghana isn't ceremonial history, it's how land, custom, and community still work today. We put together a full guide to how chieftaincy works, who some of the most significant paramount chiefs are today. Link in the comments! 👑

🌿Aburi Botanical Gardens has been growing since 1890, making it the oldest botanical garden in Ghana.

Between the Royal Palm Avenue 🌴🌴🌴, a carved Tree of Life🌳over a century old, and a genuinely unexplained retired Air Force helicopter 🚁 sitting in a clearing, there's a lot more here than most people expect from a day trip.

On Friday, July 24th, Green Views hosted its first tenant-led initiative, a bead-making📿class organised entirely by one of our own residents, who volunteered to share her skills with the rest of the building.

The idea behind it was simple: bring residents together around a shared creative activity, in a relaxed setting where people could actually talk while their hands were busy.

Participants picked up the basics of bead-making while getting to know neighbors they might otherwise only pass in the hallway, and the range of styles that came out of one shared table of beads said a lot about the diverse talents already living here.

This won't be a one-off. Residents will take turns facilitating future sessions, so if this one wasn't for you, the next initiative might be exactly your thing!🧵

August 1st is Emancipation Day, the heart of PANAFEST, Ghana's biennial homecoming for the African diaspora. This year the festival runs from July 23rd to August 2nd, with ceremonies at Cape Coast Castle and nearby Assin Manso marking one of the most significant dates on the country's calendar.

We put together a full guide to visiting, what the tour involves, how long to set aside, and what to pair it with. Link in the comments. 🕯️

Built in 1482, Elmina Castle is the oldest European building in Sub-Saharan Africa. 🏰

Today, visitors walk through its dungeons, cross its drawbridge, and stand at the Door of No Return, while Elmina's fishing harbour carries on quietly just outside. 🌊
