Today Greece honours the national anniversary of ‘Oxi Day’ 🇬🇷
Σήμερα η Ελλάδα γιορτάζει την εθνική επέτειο του Οχι
It was on this day, 28th of October 1940, that the Greek prime minister, Ioannis Metaxa’s denied the Italian army free passage to access and occupy strategic sites in Greece.
The response to Mussolini’s ultimatum was a brief ‘Then, it is war’ but at the time, the catchphrase of simply ‘Oxi’ or ‘No’ was adopted by the Athenians.
To this present day we honour the bold approach Greece took at this crucial moment in time leading up to WWII.
