There was a time a few years ago when I was absolutely adamant that I'd seen so many photos of this iconic scene that essentially I'd already "seen it" so I didn't want to go there in person. That's such a silly attitude. There's no substitute for being somewhere in person - feeling the chill breeze, hearing the thunder of the waterfall, and watching the stars twinkle overhead - that's an experience, and having these experiences is what photography is all about for me. So I didn't try to get a "new" angle on Kirkjufellsfoss, I simply stood where thousands (if not millions!!) of others have stood before me, and enjoyed the fact that I had the opportunity to see it in person, to enjoy the shifting moonlight, and to experience it side-by-side with the love of my life ☺

What more could you ask for??

(Actually, there was a Japanese fellow who was there and he was planning to stay all night, hoping to see the Aurora... so some people can ask for more, but I certainly didn't feel that it needed an Aurora!! 😜)

One of the very few colourful sunsets we were witness to during our time in Iceland. It's a 25-second exposure, but I've also added a little bit of horizontal motion blur to the foreground to smooth out the water completely. So peaceful. So serene.

Well - it looks that way at least. The truth is that this was taken at Djúpalónssandur at a pebble beach and the sound of the rocks being pummelled and rolled together constantly by the crashing waves was incredible!! It was soothing, but certainly not quiet!!
