Our beloved two-bedroom cottage is available to rent for the first time this summer. Book directly with us – Simon & Lucy – or find us on Airbnb 😊
A unique combination of countryside charm and seaside living, the cottage is nestled in the olive groves just a 5-minute drive or cycle (or a 25-minute walk) from the bustling coastal resort of Nidri, Lefkada.

Why the name?
Not long after we moved into the cottage in 2014, we began to hear the soft, familiar call of an owl almost every night. It quickly became part of life here.
Then one evening, driving slowly down the dimly lit lane towards the house, I finally saw it - perched quietly on a fence beside a neighbouring lemon and olive grove. I stopped, rolled down the window, and filmed the moment. It was a Little Owl 🦉.
Although that video has since been lost, the memory has stayed with me.
The Little Owl also holds a special place in Ancient Greek mythology, symbolising wisdom and knowledge. It felt like the perfect name for a house that has stood for generations, quietly witnessing the passing of time and the stories of modern Greece.

We battled through brambles just to uncover the property!

When we bought it back in 2007, the house had been abandoned for many, many years. There was no running water inside—let alone electricity. But it was exactly the kind of project we had been dreaming of.

Fast forward 19 years… after 11 wonderful years of calling it home, we’re now making some upgrades to open it up as a holiday rental. Our very first guests arrive next month!

It's impossible to know exactly how old our cottage is, but locals believe it's around 150 years old. For most of that time, there was no running water - wives and children would walk 1km to the nearest well - many times a day, to collect enough for washing and cooking.

In March 2014, we moved in - and slowly, life returned to these stone walls in the most beautiful way ✨
Little Owl Cottage had stood here for years, holding its history in silence. Now, its rooms were filled once again with laughter, music, celebrations, and the quiet beauty of everyday moments.

One of the most magical features of our cottage is these east-facing windows - framing distant mainland mountains and greeting each day with the soft glow of sunrise 🌄
Over the years, we’ve met neighbours and locals who were born here or spent part of their childhood in this house. One moment I’ll never forget was showing a friend’s mum around — as she stepped inside, her eyes filled with tears. So much had changed… yet these three windows were still here, and looking at them in an instant, her childhood memories came flooding back 🥹🥰
