Patmos, the island with the mystic atmosphere, where The Apocalypse (the Book of Revelation) was written by John the Apostle

Patmos is a unique island that once you step on it you feel its incredible aura that makes you relax completely and experience an absolute peacefulness.

Patmos is a small island of the Dodecanese complex that you can actually go all around it with a car in about one hour.

Its prominent castle, which is built of local gray stone that contrasts with the whitewashed houses, stands imposingly on the top of Chora (the capital of the island).

All the houses in Chora are built in such a way, that what you see as you go around the small alleys is only their outside door.

They all have a yard on their inner side, which is not visible from the outside and reinforces the mystic atmosphere of the island.

The famous cave where John the Apostle wrote the last book of the New Testament is located between the island's capital (Chora) and the port called Skala.

You can get an idea of Patmos’ mystic ambience from the pictures above but it has nothing to do with the true feeling that you can only experience if you visit the island, which is strongly recommended if you plan to visit Greece.

The unique Greek church without a roof

“Panagia Kakaviotissa” is the only church in Greece that doesn’t have a roof and is built under a cave, which serves as its natural protection. It is dedicated to the mother of God (Virgin Mary) and is located on the top of the mountain Kakavos, hence its name.

It lies on Limnos, an island in the northeast Aegean Sea. The access to the chapel is a 10 minute car ride from Myrina, the capital of Limnos and then a 45 minute hiking on a path to the top of the mountain.

It is a point of absolute silence and unique aesthetics, a perfect retreat for those who want to isolate themselves and pray. The right place to pray today, on one of the most important dates for the Greek Orthodox Christians that we celebrate the Dormition of Virgin Mary.

Have you ever heard about the “million dollar lesson” by Onassis?

The Greek shipping tycoon once gave an interview in which he shared his “million dollar lesson”:

“Always carry a notebook. Write everything down. When you have an idea, write it down. When you meet someone new, write down everything you know about them. That way, you will know how much time they are worth. When you hear something interesting, write it down. Writing it down will make you act upon it. If you don’t write it down you will forget it. That is a million-dollar lesson they don’t teach you in business school!”

Nowadays you don’t even have to carry a notebook. You can use an app at your phone instead. Write down your ideas and keep notes for people you meet: family info, names of spouse and children, their habits and interests. Anything that you consider useful and need to remember concerning your personal or business relation with them that will also help you build a good rapport next time you meet.

Do it like Onassis! There is no guarantee you will end up with a fleet of ships 😀but it will definitely help! 👍

Diaporos: The Caribbean of Halkidiki

Halkidiki is the favorite place for vacation for people from Thessaloniki, that’s why we use a lot the expression: “there is nothing like Halkidiki”. Diaporos, a small island located at Sithonia, the second peninsula of Halkidiki, reinforces this statement. Its turquoise crystal clear waters, the exotic landscape, the small bays with pure white sand will definitely leave you speechless, as they left me, first time I visited the place. Diaporos can only be reached with a private or a rented boat and there are not any organized beaches, beach bars or anything of the sort. It’s a place you definitely have to visit if you plan to spend your vacation at Halkidiki!

When you see the pictures of these buildings, which could equally stand with nowadays’ modern constructions, it is difficult to realize that they were designed and built in the 60's.

They were designed by the famous Greek architect, Aris Konstantinidis, the father of Greek architectural modernism whose favorite quote was: “I believe in dreams, not fantasy”

Konstantinidis was born in Athens but studied in Germany between 1931 and 1936 at a time when modernist architecture flourished.

He came back to Greece in 1936 and has designed many iconic buildings. He was also responsible for expanding the Greek tourism industry.

In the late 50’s he was hired by the Greek National Tourism Organization for their latest project, the construction of a series of hotels called “Xenia” around the country.

Konstantinidis, along with a team of other modernist architects, designed hotels in breathtaking locations such as Mykonos, Andros, Chalkidiki, Kalabaka, and Olympia from 1957 to 1967, some of which are still standing.

Konstantinidis was a true pioneer of his time.

🌳 Bosco Verticale 🌳 The Innovative Project in Milan that changed the way designers think about Sustainable Development

Bosco Verticale, which means Vertical Forest, is a pair of residential towers, a project that was designed as part of the rehabilitation of a historic district of Milan.

The towers were designed six years ago by the Italian architectural firm and developed by COIMA

The extensive use of plants not only absorbs carbon dioxide and reduces energy consumption but also improves everyday living by lowering stress and extending to increased focus.

It is no coincidence that companies like and have biophilic standards for their buildings.

Although not the first-ever green project, became a role model for an emerging type of architecture, bringing nature to the city and calling attention to the wider green building movement.

With the environment being back in focus and a shift of living closer to nature, it is highly expected that more green construction projects will be implemented worldwide in the near future.

😮 This unique place in Greece is included in the list of the 21 top destinations for 2021 by CNN Travel. No it’s not an island !!

With the pandemic having banned travel for almost a year now, many are planning or even dreaming of the place to visit once travel is allowed again.

In this context, CNN has created a list of 21 destinations to visit in 2021, when tourism becomes available again.
Greece is in the top destinations for 2021 and CNN singles out Meteora.

More specifically: “Meteora's monasteries are among Greece's many showstopping wonders. And in 2021, Greece will have more reason than most to celebrate - it's marking its 200th birthday as an independent, modern nation."

Meteora, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, is a rock formation in central Greece hosting one of the largest and most steeply built complexes of Eastern orthodox monasteries.

The six (of an original twenty four) monasteries are built on immense natural stone pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominate the local area.

Meteora, etymologically related to meteor, means "lofty", "elevated", which is a very accurate description of this amazing place as you can see in the pictures.

🔔 The Greek tradition of the Christmas Boat of Hope 🔔

The “Karavaki” (the Greek word for a small boat) was particularly popular in Greek island homes or in villages by the sea.

The boat was carried around by children singing Christmas carols on the Greek islands as a wish for a good year for their sailor relatives.

Although widely replaced by the Christmas tree in households throughout the country, the Christmas boat tradition that roots back way further is not forgotten by the Greeks.

The boat is a symbol for the Christmas and New Year period not only because Greece is a seafaring country but because it represents travelling into a new direction blessed by the birth of Christ.
