It’s one of many projects developed in alignment with CRA’s mission to include natural elements into architecture under the theme of biophilia. It’s a philosophy introduced by Harvard professor E.O. Wilson, which suggests people intrinsically want to live close to nature.

Krill Design Milano] unveils ‘ohmie’, the world’s first fully circular lamp made from sicilian orange peels. Acquired as waste from the food industry, the discarded peels are dried, ground into powder form, and blended with a natural biopolymer, while the mixture is then 3D printed into a lightweight fixture. 100% organic and compostable, ‘ohmie’ seeks to combat the problematic disposal of bioresources, by turning scraps into a statement piece.

This month, we talked to Dr Jason M. Y. Tse, who leads the Sustainability and Building Physics Team for International (Hong Kong) Ltd.

Q: What are the trends that will become more prominent in green building in the next five years?

A: I think more and more new buildings would strive for zero carbon emission in the next five years. Rather than just focusing on the design and construction of a building, it will become more common for clients to look at how their buildings can operate more sustainably in the long run.
