What are you looking for in a home? I know, close to the beach, or waterfront, or water nearby. I hear this sometimes and wonder if people understand that Roatán is about 35 miles long and 3.5 miles wide.

Some homes offer spectacular doubles sided views, or at least views of the North or South shore. The beach is always a short drive away, as in the states, I was 8 hours from the closest beach.

Now I live about 8 minutes to half moon Bay or 15 minutes to West Bay, which is fantastic.

The point is, you’re always close to the beach, think long term when buying here. You are no longer a tourist. You settle in to a routine and going to the beach every single day isn’t reality. We have cars to maintain, house to keep up, grocery shopping, pets to take care of etc.

Live where you have peace and tranquility, conveniently located to amenities.
Do you want a gated community or non gated with no HOA’s ?
Before you answer that, one should consider how much time you are going to spend on Roatán?
Part time, full time? Are you renting your home or not? Does a home with all the maintenance that comes with it work better or a condo where someone else takes care of the yard and outside of the building.

Keep in mind, this is living, not vacation. Make that part of your decision, compile a list of what’s important and make your decision based on all factors of “living” on this amazing island.
