Taylor Swift has a new single on the way. This house has a story that goes back 129 years.
Before the Lake Erie estate Taylor Swift shares with Travis Kelce, there was the House of Seven Gables in Wheaton, Illinois.
Built in 1897 as a wedding gift for steel magnate Jay Morse, the home was designed by Chicago architect Jarvis Hunt. Years later, Morse commissioned Hunt to create a similar residence on Lake Erie, linking the two homes through the same owner, architect and personal vision.
The Wheaton original has had quite a life of its own. When redevelopment threatened the property, preservationists stepped in, and in 2017, the 730-ton residence was moved roughly 500 feet and placed on a new foundation.
Today, its Tudor architecture, exposed beams, paneled rooms and historic detailing remain.
