Gizella Mill
Built in 1880 Gizella Mill was one of the last 3 steam mills of the 19 larger steam mills in Budapest. Like most mills in Budapest, it was producing wheat flour, semolina and wheat bran. Around 1896 almost 400 people were employed there. With the dangers of mills and power fires and explosions, Gizella Mill burnt down in 1921 but was rebuilt a few months later. During World War II mos

t mills in Budapest were seriously damaged or burned out, but miraculously Gizella Mill was left unharmed. After nationalisation in 1948 it operated as a state-owned company until 1963, when the Soroksári Road was rebuilt and the mill lost its rail connection. In the following decades the main building was used as a warehouse, continuously degrading, until recent years when it was converted to residential apartments.
