The relationship between Islam and Hinduism in Bali has a lengthy history, dating to the third century and the historical exchanges between Muslim kings from outside the island and Hindu rulers from within. Mutual agreements formed the basis of these relationships, which included trading partnerships and marital alliances.

Throughout its history, Indonesian civilization has evolved alongside the assimilation of foreign cultures. Initially rooted in animistic beliefs, Indonesians gradually embraced the cultural and religious principles of Hinduism and Islam, before encountering Western influences during the colonial period.

One of the most striking aspects of Hindu-Islamic relations in Bali is the spirit of tolerance and coexistence that permeates the island. Balinese Hindus and Muslims often participate in each other’s religious festivals and ceremonies, reflecting a shared sense of community, racial harmony, diversity and mutual respect.
