The design of this secondary skin began with a simple question: how can we create greater privacy and comfort without sacrificing natural light and ventilation?
Working closely with our client, we explored solutions that would respond to Bali’s tropical climate while complementing the building’s organic form. The result is a curved secondary skin that acts as both a protective layer and an architectural feature.
More than a façade element, it helps reduce solar heat gain, minimize glare, improve natural ventilation, and enhance privacy. Its semi-transparent composition allows filtered daylight and outward views while contributing to a cooler and more energy-efficient living environment.
To refine the design, we developed three secondary skin concepts, each exploring different levels of shading, openness, and architectural expression. The final direction balances environmental performance, low-maintenance durability, and a contemporary tropical aesthetic that integrates seamlessly with the overall design.
