Cork, a town rich in history and culture. Cobh, formerly known as Queenstown is placed in one of the largest natural harbours in the world, and as a result is synonymous with major 20th century maritime events, from the last port of call of the RMS Titanic, to the sinking of the RMS Lusitania. Spike Island, which is facing Cobh is another aspect of Cork Harbour which is steeped in history. Due to
the island’s strategic position in the harbour it has been used in a variety of ways from a prison, to an epicentre of emigration, and is now transformed into a heritage attraction. Rosenburg house itself, has witnessed many of these historical events as it was built by Lord Rushbrooke’s Estate in the early 1870’s. Rosenburg was leased to the British Admiralty during the English ruling of Ireland, and during this time the house was used as living quarters for British Naval Officers. The Victorian architecture of Rosenburg is reminiscent of this Victorian history, and is also mirrored in the striking antiques that are found around the house. Rosenburg is surrounded by ample gardens that are perfect for a stroll or an evening barbeque. In the 1920’s and 1930’s Rosenburg was leased to a series of local banks and in the early 1970’s was purchased by the O’Grady family. In 1994 Rosenburg House was purchased by the Stack family.
