Cork has been leading the way for an outdoor Summer with seventeen streets in the city now fully pedestrianised to accommodate the public!

Upon Horgan’s Quay’s completion, we look forward to bringing a new public realm to the city with a campus spanning over six acres for the people of Cork to enjoy. A host of amenities, restaurants and markets will benefit from direct access to the on-site transport hub, creating a vibrant space with history and heritage at its heart.

This year’s Summer Solstice occurs today, the 21st of June, and brings with it the longest day we’ll see all year round with the sun rising at 4:58am and not setting again until 9:57pm this evening!

Sustainability and energy efficiency are at the heart of Horgan’s Quay, maximising every element of our position, location and build. Today’s sunshine will flow through No. 1 all-day long as the floor-to-ceiling glazing transmits daylight from sunrise to sunset, while the photovoltaic panels on our roof will harness the solar energy of the Summer sun, contributing to our nZEB compliance and BER rating of A2. ☀️

A great piece this past week in the Irish Times on how Cork City’s docklands are transforming and becoming modernised with developments like Horgan’s Quay while respecting the tradition and maritime heritage of the area by integrating historic buildings into the future plans of the quays.

With the restoration of the Goods Shed now complete, we look toward the next phase of offices and the residential component of the Horgan’s Quay, which will consist of 300+ apartments set against a courtyard entrance via the former station master’s house offering waterfront views over the River Lee.

Mixed scheme, which includes a museum and visitor centre, will be like a gift to the city, says developer

Set against the restored limestone wall of the historic Goods Shed, No. 2 Horgan’s Quay continues our mission of building on tradition.

This 8-storey office building features 8 large, open-plan floors that all benefit from extensive views to both the River Lee and upper harbour. The sixth floor is home to a 260 sq m private terrace that overlooks the river and beyond, providing unrivalled views of Cork City.

Cantilevered over the original Goods Shed Cork limestone wall, the striking southern side of No. 1 Horgan’s Quay provides spectacular views both inside and out.

Preserving the Victorian character of the dynamically regenerated buildings on the ground floor exterior provided the challenge of having No. 1 interact with and complement the design of its historic foundations.

The strong, simple form of the cantilevered building reinforces the visual connection between the Goods Shed and current contemporary materials, making it distinct, robust and deserving of its commanding position on the River Lee.
