After spending more than a decade in real estate in Southern California and as a member of Private Client Group OC at Compass , it’s particularly meaningful to now connect that part of my career with the business we have built here in Ireland.

When we moved our family from the U.S. to Ireland, the residency side was relatively straightforward as I am an Irish citizen, and Natalie was able to obtain Stamp 4 permission through our marriage.

But for many of the U.S.-based clients we speak with, the path is not quite as obvious.

Irish ancestry, an Irish or EU spouse, employment, retirement and studying can all potentially play a part depending on your circumstances.

One important thing to note is you can buy property in Ireland without being a resident, but buying a home does not give you the right to live here.

A beautifully renovated apartment with a great backdrop can be very appealing, but you are buying into more than what’s inside the front door.

The condition of the development, service charges, sinking fund, upcoming works and potential levies can all matter just as much as the apartment itself.

Service charges, the Owners’ Management Company, sinking funds, AGM minutes, insurance and the overall health of the development all matter.
