Brennan Furlong Architects Architects & Urban Planners

The practice of Brennan Furlong centres on the principle that the well-considered and carefully developed design of buildings and spaces we use every day helps to enrich and enliven the experience of our built environment. Our design approach centres on that philosophy and as such each project is viewed as a unique opportunity to incrementally improve the spaces, in which we live, work and recreate on a daily basis.

Exciting progress on site with &

These two neighbouring projects have been a unique opportunity for us to work closely with two amazing families, where a shared vision and collaboration have been key throughout. We’re looking forward to seeing the joinery windows on site by .ie.

The new first-floor additions are designed to reinforce the established rhythm and character of the existing streetscape.

The next project in our is this 1950s house. The original brick‑arched entrance became the generator for the new spatial connections within our refurbishment and extension project with First Class Building & Carpentry. That entrance arch marks the shift from public to private, outside to inside — so we took this element, rotated it 90 degrees, and repeated it as an internal arcade.

Running parallel to the main axis established by the original porch, the three new brick arches guide movement through the house while providing openings into the original restored dining room & new sunken living space, and offering a glazed view into the courtyard placed between them — all arranged in symmetry with the new kitchen.

We’ll share some photos from site in the coming weeks as the arcade takes shape – stay tuned!

The next project in our involved the reorganisation and extension of a suburban dwelling on an infill site, creating a light-filled family home.

The house is conceived as a descending series of terraces following the contours of the site – to the front, the house looks onto a green area housing the only remaining Legion Hall in Ireland, to the rear, the house and garden descend to overlook the Dublin – Belfast railway line.

This project featured in the Irish Architecture Foundation Open House Dublin event 2021.

Our first website launched with the practice in 2015, and documented a decade of projects, culminating in last year’s studio trip to Venice to see a selection of our work exhibited at Time Space Existence 2025. We are delighted to now launch our new website, as we step into the next chapter of the practice. Take a look and see what we’ve been working on.

Our cliff-side house project in started on-site this week, its volumes inspired by an abstraction of an evolved vernacular form evident across the country. Looking forward to seeing this take shape over the coming months.
