The Connemara Giant, known as Conn of the Sea, is said to be protector of Connemara. Legend has it that Conn won a ferocious battle against the Giant Finn MacCool, in defense of Connemara. At the start of every April locals flock to the site of great importance at Recess saying the ancient word 'slooflirpa' to thank the giant!๐ช๐๏ธโค๏ธ๐ฎ๐ช

UPDATE: Ok it's time to come clean... Although the statue of the Connemara Giant is real (and well worth a visit for some fun Irish humour), sadly the legend of the giant and the story told by us is not.
You'll find that is you spell the ancient word 'SLOOFLIRPA' backwards it'll say.... ๐
Sorry for the little tall tale folks, we couldn't resist a bit of creative story telling on April the 1st! ๐๐
