Would you like to learn some traditional and sustainable building skills? Now is your chance! Join Dúchas na Sionna on one of two traditional mud and lime building workshops being run at Hastings Farmhouse in Shannon in early October. Whether you are interested in restoring and conserving an old building like Hastings Farmhouse or thinking about a new build, these workshops will be of interest to you. The project is supported by The Heritage Council.

'There was a great turn out for the Heritage Week Event at Hastings Farmhouse on Sunday last hosted by Dúchas na Sionna and Shannon Archaeological & Historical Society. Participants at the event were treated to traditional music entertainment by the Kirby Family, and heard about the history of the farmhouse and the project to restore it. The afternoon featured a practical demonstration of traditional building skills including rebuilding a section of wall using the rammed earth technique.
The project is supported by the Heritage Council.

MUD, LIME & TIMBER: Building a house 200 years ago.

Your invited this Sunday 25th August at 2pm at Hastings Farmhouse (beside the crematorium) to a fun family event including music, refreshments, a talk on the local history and a demonstration of the building technique to be used in the restoration of the farmhouse.
The event is part of a project approved under the Heritage Council's grants programme in 2024

Dúchas na Sionna (Hastings Farmhouse) CLG are delighted to announce the success of its 2024 application for funding to the Heritage Council. In 2023 the group received Heritage Council funding to commission a report outlining best practice methodology for the restoration of Hastings Farmhouse, Shannon. The purpose of the current Heritage Council grant is to put the recommendations of the report into action by restoring a portion of the mud and stone wall. The project is under the supervision of conservation professionals who will run two three day traditional building training workshops in early September. A Heritage Week event planned for 25th August will give a demonstration of the techniques to be used in the restoration. Details of the event will be posted closer to the time.

Dúchas na Sionna (Hastings Farmhouse) is delighted to have been selected as a county winner in the Heritage Category of the National Lottery Good Causes Awards 2024. The awards reward the best of community and voluntary organisations. We hope to make the shortlist for the national awards in October. Thank you for supporting our project!
