Helping someone at the moment, so want to share with you all some of the info I sent her.
This is just to give you a very rough idea what your £100 K could buy. At the moment the British pound is fairly strong so £100 would give you 117 Euro, but this can change any time. So probably worth thinking, that whatever you end up paying in Euro, you will spend in pounds when you have included cost of buying. On top of that you need to have reserves for moving and settling in.
If you are doing your own searches, it is worth knowing, that when an Irish property ad describes somewhere 'a vibrant town' it may not mean that to us coming from the UK. Therefore, if you need to have restaurants and shops in your town, it's best to stick to slightly bigger ones, or those with a major tourist attraction (such as sandy beach or castle).
Best places to search on line are daft.ie or myhome.ie.
If you find a house that you like and think the town might be nice, search restaurants in that town, that will give you some idea of the character, amenities and feel of the town.
In short, descriptions of some of the towns near me
Wexford:
The County town in Wexford county, by the sea with a pretty harbor side, busy Main Street (high st) with a good variety of shops and restaurants. County Hall, Garda (police) HQ, good music scene and good access to Dublin airport (2 h) and Rosslare Harbour (20 mins)
Enniscorthy:
Small but lovely town with plenty of pubs and restaurants and a lovely castle. Foodie people. 25 mins from Wexford town and approx 30 mins from nearest beach (Blackwater and Curracloe). Very few houses for sale there, but there is this flat:
New Ross:
A smaller town by the river approx 30 minutes west from Wexford. A busy through road passes New Ross, but busy by Irish standards is nothing like we know in the UK. Up and coming in terms of property market, so at the moment a little cheaper than Enniscorthy and Wexford. Many shops and restaurants. Good access to Waterford (30 mins) and Wexford. Cork airport apporox 2h.
Lismore:
A very pretty and touristy small town with an attractive castle and grounds. Some pubs, restaurants and shops. Approx 1 h to Cork and to Waterford City.
