🤝 Wexford District Chapter Update
Last week, the Chamber's Wexford District Chapter was delighted to welcome Anthony Bailey, District Manager, Wexford Borough District, to its April meeting.
💬 The discussion focused on the local business environment, with valuable insights shared across a number of key areas:
🏗️ Economic Development & Town Regeneration: Wexford County Council is actively exploring all avenues to tackle creeping dereliction. Specific areas and laneways are being maintained with a vision to create attractive, creative walkways.
🏪 Town Centre Investment: A €150,000 budget has been allocated to improve shopfronts. It was also acknowledged that many businesses remain fragile and need increased financial support to remain viable.
⚠️ Retail & Business Challenges: The discussion also addressed anti-social behaviour, lack of engagement from some sectors, and rising pressures on small businesses around wages, sick pay and pension obligations
🌱 Looking Ahead: The importance of “getting back to basics” was highlighted - engaging with retailers, supporting Tidy Towns and biodiversity initiatives, and making practical, incremental improvements to enhance the town’s overall appearance and experience.
🤝 Collaboration is Key: Stronger collaboration between stakeholders, was highlighted as essential to drive initiatives such as markets, pop-ups and town centre activation, with participation and demand being critical to success.
