Dholera Smart City News:
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recently approved two major semiconductor projects under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) on May 5, 2026. These projects represent a combined investment of ₹3,936 crore and are expected to create over 2,200 skilled jobs.
One of these flagship projects is specifically located in Dholera, further solidifying its status as India's premier semiconductor hub.
1. Dholera Project: Crystal Matrix Limited (CML)
Crystal Matrix Limited will establish India's first commercial Mini/Micro-LED display manufacturing facility.
Focus: Compound semiconductor fabrication and ATMP (Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging).
Technology: Gallium Nitride (GaN) based technology.
Capacity:
72,000 sq. meters of Mini/Micro-LED display panels annually.
24,000 sets of RGB GaN wafers annually.
Applications: High-end displays for smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, automotive (in-car displays), and Extended Reality (XR) glasses.
2. Surat Project: Suchi Semicon Private Limited (SSPL)
The second approved project will be located in Surat, focusing on the back-end of the supply chain.
Type: Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility.
Capacity: Over 1,033 million chips per year.
Applications: Discrete semiconductors used in power electronics, electric vehicles (EV battery management), industrial automation, and consumer appliances like ACs and laptops.
Impact on Dholera’s Ecosystem
These new approvals bring the total number of projects under the India Semiconductor Mission to 12, with a total investment nearing ₹1.64 lakh crore.
For Dholera specifically, this adds to the massive momentum already established by the Tata Electronics-PSMC Fab (a ₹91,000 crore project). With the supporting infrastructure like the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway and the upcoming International Airport, the region is rapidly transforming into a global destination for electronics manufacturing.
