Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation for India’s second largest cricket stadium in Anekal on the outskirts of Bengaluru 🏟️
The project is valued at around ₹943 crore and slated for completion in around three years. It will house state-of-the-art training facilities, infrastructure, and will aim to reduce the pressure on the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during major sporting events.
Urban planners criticise the project citing the lack of infrastructure to support 80,000 spectators. It is argued the road connectivity is primitive, and metro connectivity is non-existent, likely to make it very difficult for local spectators to travel such long distances.
The project especially comes into the spotlight after the infamous stampede that claimed 11 lives in 2025. Subject to development in the surrounding areas connecting to the city, which will also be detrimental to the forest area, the project currently remains a topic of debate among authorities.
