This project merged contemporary design with Vastu Shastra, an ancient Indian architectural science with roots tracing back thousands of years to the Vedic period, aiming to craft a harmonious, modern home in a dense urban setting.
We designed a family residence in Brigade Oasis, a 65-hectare master-planned community in Bangalore, on a 240 m² plot with streets to the south and east, and neighbors 4 meters away to the west and north.
The two-story living area opens south, offering park views and a large planter for light and balance, with south and east openings maximized, while west and north windows are minimal for privacy. Bangalore’s equatorial location, with milder southern sun than Europe or North America, enabled generous south-facing glazing, enhanced by perforated screens on the upper level for comfort. A standout feature is the top-floor guest en-suite with an atrium terrace, its smaller west portion near the neighbor and main south opening ensuring light and privacy. A planted east-side terrace and a south-facing roof terrace, with the house stepping down at the corner, embrace greenery and park views. The north-east entrance welcomes positive energy (air), the north-west gym boosts vitality (air), and the south-central guest suite adds warmth ( fire) on the ground floor. The first floor’s south-east master suite enhances vitality ( fire), while the south-west living zone grounds with earth energy. On the second floor, the north-west en-suite offers lightness (air), and the east/north-east green terrace fosters growth (water).
With minimalist interiors and sustainable materials, this home balances tradition and modernity per the client’s vision, reflecting Vastu’s principles.
