Rhapsody of Light is featured in India's Leading Design Lions — Forbes India Marquee, August 2026.

At Vivospace Architects, we work from the belief that architecture communicates through space, light and material. Every project looks for the balance between openness and privacy, and lets climate-responsive design, passive strategies and a restrained palette do the work that ornament is usually asked to do. Bringing life to spaces.

Rhapsody of Light is that idea under pressure. An 8,000 sq ft residence in JP Nagar, on a west-facing plot closed in by adjoining buildings and overlooking balconies. Rather than treat privacy as a barrier, the façade treats it as a filter — a breathing skin of horizontal steel members and hand-tinted architectural concrete fins that softens the western sun while letting light and air move through. Behind it, a semi-open central courtyard, double-height glazing and placed skylights draw daylight deep into the plan. Italian marble, lime-textured walls, open-pore veneers and crafted teak stay quiet, so light remains the defining material.

Climate response becomes beauty. Privacy becomes openness. The constraints of the site become the strongest thing about the building.

Design Highlight | Staircase
Soham Residence, Bengaluru, Karnataka

The staircase is designed as far more than a means of circulation. Wrapped around an indoor tree, it becomes the home's sculptural spine, connecting every level through movement, light, and nature. As family members move between floors, the tree remains a constant visual anchor, bringing calmness into everyday routines. The staircase also strengthens the relationship between the home's double-height volumes, allowing spaces to feel visually connected while maintaining their individual character. It transforms a functional element into one of the residence's defining architectural experiences.

Soham Residence is conceived as a contemporary family home where structure, landscape, and spatial planning come together as a unified architectural language. Designed as a framed structure, the residence enables flexible, open planning with interconnected living spaces, double-height volumes, and seamless visual connectivity across floors.

The entrance acts as a quiet threshold between the city and the home. A sculpted terracotta-toned volume is complemented by a corten steel jali that filters light, air, and views while ensuring privacy within the dense urban context. Deeply recessed openings and a restrained material palette lend the façade a timeless, grounded character.

Landscape is integrated into the architecture through carefully placed green pockets, softening the built form and bringing light, ventilation, and a sense of calm into the living spaces. Every design decision responds to the site's urban constraints while creating a home that is private, breathable, and deeply connected to nature.

The dining space is conceived as a celebration of volume, light, and material expression. Defined by a dramatic double-height ceiling, it invites natural light deep into the home, creating a sense of openness while strengthening the visual dialogue between levels.

An oval marble dining table anchors the space, complemented by warm leather seating and a refined palette of stone, timber, bronze, and concrete. A sculptural breeze-block screen softly filters daylight, casting dynamic patterns of light and shadow throughout the day while maintaining a strong connection to the landscape beyond. Carefully selected lighting and understated detailing enhance the architectural language, allowing proportion, texture, and craftsmanship to take center stage.

The staircase forms the spatial heart of the residence, establishing a strong visual and experiential connection between levels. Conceived as more than a circulation element, it works in dialogue with the double-height volume and the indoor tree to introduce daylight, movement, and a continuous sense of openness throughout the home.

A sculpted concrete envelope, defined by soft curves and tactile textures, wraps the space to create a calm, monolithic expression. The fluid ceiling transitions seamlessly into the walls, while a cluster of black pendant lights punctuates the void, adding scale and rhythm. The restrained material palette allows light to become an active architectural element, filtering through the arched opening and accentuating the sculptural quality of the interiors.

The result is a staircase that is not simply a connector between floors, but a central architectural experience—bringing together structure, light, materiality, and spatial continuity into one cohesive composition.
