GENERAL INFORMATION:
TEA:
The total Made Tea can be increased to 5 Lakh by consolidation work ( Infilling, replanting
etc ) in 20 hectares of the existing Tea areas and also by irrigation of 75 hectares of the Tea area.
(Tea Board subsidy is available ranging from 25% - 40% on activities under CAPEX )
Green Leaf from small grower segment is available in plenty. There is a huge potential to
step up the Bought Leaf operation to 7 Lakh Kg of Made Tea. To do this an investment
of 75 lakh will be required in the Factory on Machinery upgradation ( Tea Board subsidy
of 25% on CAPEX is available. )
CARDAMOM:
The area in excess other than the area under active cultivation of Cardamom can be used for
growing tree crops. The area is suitable for growing fruit trees like Lichies, Mangostein , Guava
etc. From the year 2004/05, the estate has embarked on a systematic replanting programme with
a new perspective. The objective is to bring down the area under active cultivation and
maximise the yield in the chosen area by adopting new technology in cultivation practices. This
has started giving the desired result from the year 2005/2006 onwards.
EXTRACTION OF TIMBER:
Nearly 200 Ha. Of the Estate is having valuable jungle trees, which provides shade for the
Cardamom cultivated underneath. Most of the trees belong to the hard jungle wood variety and
if converted into timber will realise very good value. On a rough estimate the timber value will
be around Rs.4 Crores.
POTENTIAL FOR TOURISM:
This is probably the best location in Wayanad District for eco-tourism. The whole Estate is
surrounded by sprawling hills and lush green vegetation. The entire area is picturesque and
the view of the tellest peak ( Chembra Peak ) in Wayanad is captivating. Around 59 Ha. Can
be ideally demarcated for development of Resorts etc.
COMMERICAL SPACE DEVELOPMENT:
30 Ha of the Tea is lying adjoining the main road, which has got good commercial value.
Adopting the current market value, this area alone will fetch an amount of Rs.3 crore. A new Tea
Factory was built in the year 2000 and the Factory is equipped for both Orthodox and CTC type
manufacturing.
