Dear Residents,
As you are aware Chennai city is reeling under severe water crisis. I’m sure you must have seen the most recent “The Hindu dated 26/7/2016”and other dailies as well.
We also had a brief water crisis for last few days in Lumbini especially for blocks 2,3,4,5,6 and others as well in brief spells. Metro water is not coming in the lines and the tanker supply in the city is severely impacted due to both water scarcity and pumping station breakdowns. We will continue to keep track of the resumption of Metro water supply and make sure we will arrange the same.
We share your frustration and agony in combating this challenge which is the same everywhere in the city. However, proactively we do want to take certain measures for which we need your support and expertise solution.
Current water status:
1. We have a good water source and NOT great. We have bore water points of 8 numbers, which just about meets the huge water demand in Lumbini. The TDS of water is high and with lack of rainfall it only increases.
2. Softener plants which was installed then or solution such as RO(reverse Osmosis) a tough choice considering the limited water source. BTW, RO as we understand is expensive and creates 50% wastage
3. The practical, medium and long term solution is to optimize our rain water harvesting facility (RWH) in Lumbini. Our builders have put forth a good system , but it’s not currently very effective as they are submerged beneath the pathways. They need to be brought up, cleaned up and serviced, which is an expensive proposition. We are going ahead for making this fit with help of builder, as it’s the most practical solution to improved quality ground water table.
What we need from the residents :
1. Lumbini water consumption is close to twice the average household consumption. Our appeal to residents to be judicious and enjoy the current free supply of water. We understand many homes had large inbuilt tankers and RO plans too. This causes a huge colossal water wastage, which is unacceptable to us as a society. We are a community living and sharing resources and we ought to be selfless against being selfish.
2. Many homes in Block 6 and 7 have interlinks (which are concealed) of their metro water lines to their bathrooms and wash. These interlinks have caused us a huge hassle of metro water non availability in many homes and mix of raw water in metro lines because of these residents. This is incorrect and will warrant penal and legal action. The investigation process is difficult and residents have been non cooperative. We need to as a community to find a way to resolve this.
We will continue to persist with our ongoing efforts to provide stable water supply@ Lumbini and metro water based on availability. However, as requested, we again appeal to the residents to be sensitive to the prevailing difficult water situation and use water judiciously. , Kindly ensure taps are close especially the flats where interior work is happening. I must mention as a example we lost huge chunk of water in block 3 where the workers had broken the tap and water was getting wasted one entire night. Our team is working on both awareness and surveillance to prevent water wastage, in the collective interest of the community. Pl support and cooperate.
Thanks
