Plot:
Main Vaapas Aaunga is an emotional period romantic-drama directed by Imtiaz Ali that spans two distinct timelines to explore the lingering trauma of the 1947 Partition and the power of an unfulfilled promise. In the present day, Nirvair (Diljit Dosanjh) embarks on a journey from London to Sargodha, Pakistan, to fulfill the dying wish of his ailing, dementia-ridden grandfather, Ishar Singh (Naseeruddin Shah), who is desperate to return to his ancestral home. The narrative then shifts to 1947, chronicling the heartbreaking past where a young Ishar (Vedang Raina) is deeply in love with Zia (Sharvari Wagh), only to be brutally separated by the violence of the Partition. Before being forced to flee to India, Ishar leaves Zia with a poignant promise-"Main vaapas aaunga" ("I will return")-a vow that echoes through generations.
