It is nestled in the beautiful foothills of the Himalayas, only about 1km away from the Ganges River. The house is a traditional style farm house, consisting of 2 common rooms and a kitchen. Around the house is a vast amount of terraced farm lands and lush jungle that has a variety of wild fruit trees. The village is very isolated, making it a very peaceful and quite place to live. There are no ma
in roads to the village, so getting there requires crossing the Ganges in a boat or bridge then hiking up into the mountain by foot path through the jungle. The property has been owned for over 3 generations by the Rana family. Our goal is to create an eco-retreat on a beautiful mountain property where people can come and meditate, do yoga and experience local, eco-sustainable methods of farming and living together. We want to share the experience of sustainable living, growing and cooking food organically using indigenous knowledge and methods, as well as bringing people together to exchange ideas and practices. In the future we would love to organize yoga and meditation activities on the property. But we will be creating additional houses on the property using old traditional styles of construction. Organic and traditional methods will be a big influence in everything we create on the property. We also want to work closely with the people in Kota. There are plenty of opportunities to learn from each other and help each other. There are a variety of projects we want to start working on right away. The first are farm related chores that include weeding, creating compost, mulching, digging irrigation trenches and planting seeds. Getting the fields and crops ready before monsoon is very important. The crops grown on the property will be used for and by guests. The second project will be clearing areas around the farm house to set up temporary housing for people to stay in. We will create the temporary housing using high grade quality canvas tents pitched over solid foundation. The third project will consist of plotting out spots on the property where we will be building permanent, traditional style housing. These houses will be used by small and large groups of guests who want to come experience local life in a small mountain village, practice yoga in a natural setting away from busy streets or meditate in the jungle just near to the Ganges. These projects are not listed in order of importance and can easily be started and worked on at the same time depending on how much help is available. Our goal is to create a family environment where people can feel at home, cook with us, grow with us and gain invaluable knowledge of eco-friendly sustainable living methods that have been lost in many western societies.
