This is shaping up to be a significant battle in the corporate world, with high stakes involved. If the Supreme Court grants a stay on the NCLT proceedings, it could lead to changes in NCLT rules for major real estate projects.

Vedanta is challenging an order regarding their status as the highest bidder and declared winner, questioning why the rule of NPV (net present value) was applied during the voting by the Committee of Creditors (COC).

Vedanta has approached the Supreme Court for a stay on the order, as the NCLAT issued unusual directives stating that the implementation of the resolution plan will remain subject to the final outcome of the appeals filed by the Anil Agarwal-led Vedanta Group.

If the plan is implemented, reversing actions such as starting work, providing funds to lenders, and delisting Jaypee shares from the market within 6-12 months would be challenging. Therefore, they are requesting the Supreme Court to grant a stay until the final order from the NCLAT is issued, which seems reasonable.

The upcoming hearing in the Supreme Court will be intriguing, as both sides are expected to engage top advocates to present their arguments.

Based on my knowledge, I predict that the Supreme Court may issue an order along the lines of: "Stay is granted, but NCLAT to hear the case on priority and decide the matter within 8-12 weeks."
