Gurugram, also known as Gurgaon, is one of the fastest-growing cities in Haryana. It is a hub for various multinational companies, IT parks, and other commercial establishments. Due to rapid urbanization and industrialization, there has been a significant increase in the population of Gurugram. However, with this growth, there has also been a rise in the demand for affordable housing.
The cost of living in Gurugram is relatively high, and the majority of the population lives in rented accommodations. The high cost of housing has made it difficult for the low-income group to afford decent living conditions. The lack of affordable housing has resulted in the proliferation of slum areas which are often unsafe and unhygienic.
The Haryana government has launched various schemes and initiatives to provide affordable housing to the residents of Gurugram. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the government aims to provide affordable housing to all by 2022. The government has also made provisions for affordable housing in the affordable housing policy of 2013. The policy mandates that developers reserve a certain percentage of units for the economically weaker sections (EWS) and low-income groups (LIG).
In conclusion, the need for affordable housing in Gurugram cannot be overstated. The government's efforts to provide affordable housing are commendable, but more needs to be done to ensure that everyone has access to decent living conditions. The private sector can also play an important role in providing affordable housing by investing in the development of affordable housing projects. It is time that we work together to ensure that affordable housing becomes a reality for every citizen of Gurugram.
