Sumit Nagal etched his name in Indian tennis history by becoming the first Indian player to win a men's singles main draw match at an ATP Masters event on clay.

In a thrilling encounter at the Monte Carlo Masters on Monday, Nagal overcame a tough challenge from World No. 38 Matteo Arnaldi of Italy.

Nagal displayed remarkable resilience, coming back from a set down to win the match 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.

This victory marks his third win over a Top-50 player and propels him into the Round of 32, where he'll face the formidable World No. 7 Holger Rune of Denmark.

Nagal's achievement goes beyond just this match. He's the only Indian man ever to win a main draw match at the Monte Carlo Masters and the first Indian to win an ATP Masters 1000 match on clay since the series began in 1990.

"Milestones are nice," said Nagal after the match. "I wanted to do well and was able to finish the match with a good service game."
