The school is nestled in the midst of majestic Valley of Kalimpong , a small Himalayan hill station in North of West Bengal state,India.

Student of Mayel Lyang Academy, Miss Sunamit Lepcha mesmerizing the listeners with her beautiful lepcha song .
Lepcha is an Indigenous Tribal community of India basically settled in the region of Sikkim, Darjeeling , Kalimpong . Apart from India in some part of Nepal too this community has its roots.

Lepcha language has its own script known as " Rongring "which is witnessing the dissipation because of the migration of people in the region since last few centuries.
Mayel Lyang Academy is an endeavor to protect this Vanishing Language and its culture , its an effort to create an repository data centre of Indigenous Knowledge .
