His life exemplifies how knowledge, faith, discipline, and dedication can elevate an individual from the remote mountains of Pir Panjal to the highest circles of international scholarship.
Early Life and Family Background:
______________________________________
Maulana Abdul Ghani Azhari was born in 1922 in the historic district of Poonch, nestled amidst the majestic Pir Panjal mountains of Jammu and Kashmir. He belonged to a respected Gujjar Muslim family headed by Ali Miyan Shashi. The Gujjar community, known for its resilience, simplicity, and strong cultural traditions, has long been an integral part of the social fabric of the Pir Panjal region.
His early childhood was shaped by the socio-economic realities of the Gujjar community, which traditionally depended upon livestock rearing and pastoral life. Despite limited resources and educational opportunities available during those times, his family recognized the value of religious education and intellectual development.
A decisive influence in his life was his grandfather, Maulana Abdul Halim al-Shashi, who is remembered as one of the earliest Gujjar Quranic scholars and exegetes. Under his grandfather’s guidance, young Abdul Ghani received his first lessons in the Quran, Islamic ethics, and Arabic language.
The atmosphere of spirituality and learning that prevailed within the family laid the foundation for his future scholarly pursuits. The discipline, humility, and devotion instilled during childhood remained visible throughout his life.
Migration to Kashmir and Educational Pursuits:
