A story of home, memory and understated luxury, featured in Architectural Digest ( Architectural Digest India )✨
In the heart of Malabar Hill, this Mumbai residence brings together the global design perspective of ARRCC ( _arrcc ) with the thoughtful, detail-driven approach of Avās Design Studio, creating a home that feels deeply personal, collected and quietly timeless.
Rather than beginning again, the design takes cues from what was already meaningful, most notably the home’s original art deco ceiling, carefully restored and retained as an anchor to its past. Around it, the apartment was reimagined with a lighter, more contemporary sensibility: warm timber, natural stone, sculptural furniture, tactile fabrics, art and objects gathered over time come together in spaces that feel refined without ever feeling overly designed.
Working closely with ARRCC, Kasturi Jathar, Interior Designer at Avās Design Studio, helped carry the design vision through locally, collaborating with craftspeople and vendors to bring an international design language into a distinctly Mumbai setting. The result is what Kasturi describes in the feature as “barefoot luxury in an extremely urban environment” - comfortable, peaceful, understated and timeless.
Throughout the home, pieces from Aequō Gallery ( Aequo Gallery ) bring an artisanal and collectible quality to the interiors, while Obeetee rugs ( Obeetee Carpets & Home ) add texture, warmth and character underfoot. Vintage furniture, contemporary design, bespoke elements and moments of colour sit naturally alongside one another, giving the home the feeling of having evolved over time rather than being meticulously staged.
For us at Avās Design Studio, that is perhaps the most enduring expression of good design: spaces that hold memory while making room for a new way of living, considered, comfortable and deeply personal.
