SECANT PILE WALL โ€” Engineered for Deep Excavation Support
When excavation gets deeper and site conditions become more challenging, a reliable retaining system becomes essential.
A Secant Pile Wall is formed by overlapping primary and secondary bored piles to create a continuous underground retaining system.
It can help with:
๐Ÿ”น Soil retention
๐Ÿ”น Ground movement control
๐Ÿ”น Groundwater management
๐Ÿ”น Deep excavation support
๐Ÿ”น Restricted & urban construction sites
From metro stations and underpasses to deep shafts and complex excavations, precision in pile positioning, verticality and overlap is critical.
Strength โ€ข Stability โ€ข Precision
The right foundation solution starts below ground. ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

You don't pull it backโ€”you reinforce it from within using Soil Nailing.
Unlike Tieback Anchors, which are tensioned to actively hold the wall in place, Soil Nailing works through passive resistance, strengthening the soil so it behaves like a stable retaining structure. Here's how it works:
1. Drill & Install
Excavation is carried out in shallow stages (typically around 5 ft at a time). After each cut, holes are drilled at a slight downward angle, and long steel rebar bars (soil nails) are inserted into the slope.
2. Grouting
The drilled holes are filled with cement grout, bonding each steel nail firmly to the surrounding soil and creating a strong composite mass.
3. Shotcrete & Facing
A steel wire mesh is placed over the exposed soil surface, followed by a layer of high-pressure sprayed concrete (shotcrete). Steel bearing plates are then secured to the exposed ends of the nails.
4. How It Works
Soil nails are not pre-tensioned. They remain passive until the soil attempts to move. As the slope deforms, the surrounding soil grips the ribbed steel bars, mobilizing their strength. Together, hundreds of nails reinforce the soil, transforming the loose ground into a stable, self-supporting mass.

How do engineers stop retaining walls from collapsing during deep excavations? ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ—๏ธ
The answer is Prestressed Tieback Anchorsโ€”a powerful geotechnical system that keeps retaining walls stable while allowing excavation to continue safely.
Here's the construction sequence:
๐Ÿ•ณ๏ธ 1. Drill & Grout
A drilling rig creates a deep, inclined hole through the retaining wall and into stable ground behind it. High-strength steel tendons are inserted, and the far end is filled with cement grout to form a strong bonded anchor zone.
โš™๏ธ 2. Prestressing the Anchor
After the grout has fully cured, a hydraulic jack is attached to the exposed steel tendons. The jack applies hundreds of tons of force, stretching the tendons to the required design load.
๐Ÿ”’ 3. Lock-Off & Permanent Support
Once the target tension is achieved, the anchor is locked in place using an anchor head. The tendons remain under constant tension, actively pulling the retaining wall toward the stable ground and resisting the pressure of the surrounding soil.
๐Ÿ—๏ธ Why It Works
Unlike passive reinforcement systems, Tieback Anchors provide active support. They continuously counteract earth pressure, keeping the retaining wall stable and creating a clear, obstruction-free excavation area for construction activities.
