Happy Navratri from Somarasa | Day 9 – When Abundance Meets Liberation

We always have a question in our minds...
What do we really seek?
Is it wealth… or freedom?
Is it comfort… or truth?
And it was on this last day of Navratri...
the Goddess replies to this, Why not both?
Here is the union of Siddha Lakshmi and Kali, which is rare and powerful.
Two forms.
Two paths.
One ultimate truth.
On the one hand, there is Siddha Lakshmi - shining, Adorned, abounding richly. She carries the signs of wealth, safety and success... all the world says we need. Her existence is filled, full, stable, as though life has at last been put in its place.
And with her stands Kali, untamed, wild, and shameless. No illusionary decorations, no requirement to be justified. Her vitality does not show any comfort... the vitality guarantees freedom.
At first, they feel opposite.
But look deeper…
They are not in conflict.
They are in conversation.
Since what is wealth (without interior freedom)?
And what is liberation... without the stability to support in it?
The deep vermilion-ground on which they stand is vibrant like life itself - sharp, radical, alive. Amid the semi-transparent lotus, the finery, and the animal nature of Kali... a harmony is created.
All seek a balance that we desire.
It is not just a painting of two goddesses...
it shows two sides of you.
The section that desires to create, develop, attain...
and the section that desires to lose, disengage, wake up.
On the 9 th day of Navratri Maa reminds us:
You need not decide between the world and the soul.
True शक्ति lies in holding both.

समृद्धि और मुक्ति… दोनों साथ हों, तभी जीवन पूर्ण होता है।

Happy Navratri from Somarasa | Day 8 – When Divinity Feels Like Home

All forms of the Goddess do not come with power...
some arrive with presence.
A quiet presence…
sweet, elegant… nearly familiar.
This is Gauri the tender part of Divine Feminine.
Not distant. Not overwhelming.
But deeply close.
In this gentle portrayal, she does not stand as a fighter or a cosmos power…
she comes out like a bride, all of silk and jewels and a peaceful sort of dignity that is nearly of a human nature. Her eyes do not give orders, but make contact. Her pose is not aggressive, but it entices.
And that is her true शक्ति.
Since Gauri is nowhere to shake the world...
she is here to soften it.
This work was produced at the legendary Ravi Varma Press late in the 19th century and has a heritage of its own in which worship penetrated into domestic lives - the Goddess was no longer merely worshiped... but experienced.
Her radiant linen and fine varnish complexion, her jewel tones, cause her presence nearly to be alive as though she could step out of the picture and sit next to you.
Here is the Goddess as the perfect bride... the mothering force... the silent power behind any house.
A manifestation in which divinity is a natural part of life.
Since there are times when the greatest Devi is not the one who battles the fight...
but the healer, and the possessor, remains.
On the 8th day of Navratri, Day Maa Gauri reminds us:
Softness is not weakness.
It is power in its most lovely manifestation.

माँ का कोमल रूप ही सबसे गहरा सहारा होता है।

Happy Navratri from Somarasa | Day 7 – When Darkness Becomes Truth
One of the forms of the divine is not comforting to you. It confronts you. She does not arrive softly. She does not seek devotion. She demands awareness. Here is Kali - the black dance of divinity dissolving.
Here, in this strong portrayal she is suspended between movements, wild, unrestrained, full of life that cannot be contained. Her hair is pouring energy, her eyes are fire, and in her hand the sickle, but it is not the weapon of attack but the weapon of liberation. Since Kali does not tear you to pieces then she tears everything except you. N**e, not deprived, but truly, out of the illusion, out of self, out of all the masks which we clasp to, is she, naked existence.
This is an artistic work, adapted to the historic book of 1913, Myths of the Hindus and Buddhists by Sister Nivedita and Ananda Coomaraswamy, and it has more than visual intensity; it has philosophy. Kali’s dance is not chaos. It is cosmic order in its absolute sincerity. She breaks down the ego, she breaks false attachments, she breaks what must be broken, that something real may start. And, it is true, she is dreadful--but to a temporary thing only. She is emancipation to the truth in you.
On this Navratri day, Maa Kali tells us that we should not see endings as the only loss, but there are the ones that lead to awakenings.

जो मिटता है… वही सच्चाई को जगह देता है।

Happy Navratri from Somarasa | Day 6 – The Power That Protects Without Moving
Not every strength is expressed in noise... there is strength of which only exists... and that is enough.
On the sixth day of Navratri, Maa Durga does not appear in a battle but was seated on her throne.
Still. Composed. Observing.
This is Durga -the Sovereign of Dharma.
And the one who does not need to rise... because nothing is bold enough to fall out of order in her presence.
Her hand is lifted in the Abhaya Mudra - a wordless oath: Do not be afraid... you are safe.
And in that lonely movement... the disorder in you starts to calm down.
Her other hands hold the sword and the chakra, not as menaces, but as realities.
The sword which cuts the illusion. The chakra that calls to mind us all - everything is in a bigger order.
And this is power... but controlled by wisdom.
She is not pursuing evil here. She is preventing it.
She is now Kṣetrāpalikā Durga the protector of spaces - of houses, of roads, of lives.
An existence that defends not by act... but by consciousness.
Even the medium in which she is painted, which is the glowing mica, is deliberate.
The divine, as though she had commissioned a plane that shone... like her appearance is light.
Maa shows us something on Day 6 of Navratri that is uncommon: That one does not necessarily need to fight in order to be powerful.
At times, the silence of yours is your best defence.
माँ की उपस्थिति ही रक्षा है… जहाँ वो हैं, वहाँ भय नहीं।

Happy Navratri from Somarasa | Day 5 – Where Destruction Becomes Liberation
There are realities in this world that are not so comfortable to you.
They unsettle you.
At the end of the sound of the world, beneath a silent tree, there is a family.
They are not ordinary. They are not distant.
But they are profoundly real.
Shiva. Parvati. Ganesha. Kartikeya.
And on their hands, not flowers, not ornaments, But a garland of cut heads.
Its initial impression is disturbing.
But persevere in it, and here persevere, because here the greatest wisdom starts.
Each head is not death.
It is an ego shed.
A false identity is released.
Some veil of illusion is finally unraveled.
And, along with Parvati, Shiva weaves them not as death but as freedom.
What they are taking out is precisely what makes us be in bondages.
The world around them shows this, a ground of cremation, dumb jackals, broken bones to remind us that nothing temporary will live.
And yet, within it all, their sons sit placid, rooted, unconcerned.
Why?
Fear is removed because when you comprehend the cycle of creation and destruction.
This does not happen in a dark scene.
This is a scene of clarity.
This artwork is inspired by Nathpanthi and Pahari traditions, and it maintains a balance, the one scarcely to be found nowadays, between the fierce and the peaceful, the ending and the eternal.
A reminding of how it is not only about staying on in life, but also about what to give up.
On the 5th day of Navratri, God speaks to him: get rid of what you are not and you will finally end up meeting your true identity.
जो छूट जाता है… वही मुक्ति का रास्ता बनता है।

Happy Navratri from Somarasa | Day 4 – When Victory Becomes Peace
Not all victories end in celebration, many of them end in silence.
The silence arises after the battle is over and the storm is over and the Goddess is no longer angry but rather brought into realization. This is the moment of decisive power that is embodied in this work of art.
The warrior in the Goddess is defiant her foot on the head of the cut off demon- a strong reminder that though it may be powerful, evil cannot last forever. However, this is a completion and not a moment of pride on closer examination.
As soon as there is destruction, there is an offering. In a very beautiful allegory the same violent Goddess is turning to her elevated, calm side--the Devi in calm divinity. She presents the fruit of her success, as though she restores the battle to that source out of which her शक्ति grew.
There are two persons in one nature; the person who makes war and the person who makes peace; the person who destroys and the person who repairs. There is a silent comprehension between them, that power is not only in winning battles, but in knowing when to forego it.
The story is still going on all around them: the cut off head indicates the end of darkness, the collective sacrifice is to signify satisfaction, and the pavilion of peace is there to remind us that it follows every storm, there must be calm.
It is not only mythology but it is life.
On the fourth day of Navratri, Maa teaches the following:
There will be battles you have to fight and win. But thereafter is what you do and your real शक्ति is in that.
विजय सिर्फ जीत नहीं होती… वह शांति तक पहुँचने का मार्ग है।

Happy Navratri from Somarasa | Day 3 – When Power Takes Form
There are moments… when the universe doesn’t whisper.
It roars.
On the third day of Navratri, Maa Durga reveals herself not just as a presence… but as Shakti in motion.
She doesn’t arrive quietly this time.
She rides forward upon her divine lion, fearless and radiant… a force that doesn’t just protect, but transforms.
In this powerful depiction, Durga sits in her majestic form, many-armed and divinely composed. Each hand holds a sacred weapon the trident, the discus, the conch, the sword not as instruments of war alone, but as symbols of balance, justice, and cosmic order.
Because her battle is not just against demons…
it is against darkness within and around us.
Her lion moves with fire in its stride fierce, untamed, yet completely aligned with her will. Together, they are not chaos… they are controlled शक्ति.
Above her, the royal chhatra and glowing halo speak of something deeper not just victory… but sovereignty. A reminder that true power is not taken… it is realized.
And behind it all, a quiet sky almost still as if time itself pauses to witness her journey.
This is Durga
not distant, not unreachable…
but present, guiding, protecting.
On Day 3 of Navratri, she reminds us:
You are allowed to be soft… and still be powerful.
You are allowed to be calm… and still carry fire within.

जब माँ अपने सिंह पर सवार होती हैं… तब डर नहीं, शक्ति जन्म लेती है।

Happy Navratri from Somarasa | Day 2 – The Grace of Brahmani
The second day of Navratri is when we increase the intensity of our devotion and orient ourselves towards the peaceful शक्ति of Brahmani the nature of wisdom, creation and divine balance. Her presence has a silent, unobtrusive power as it is neither loud nor overwhelming but constant, balanced, and all-encompassing to remind us that real शक्ति is often silent.

This is an inspirational piece of art that encapsulates Brahmani in her most beautiful, appearing in the bright red sari, wielding a trident, and standing on her divine mount, the Hamsa, a symbol of purity, discernment, and higher knowledge. She is serene but commanding, serene but with the presence of a command, which makes one bow down before her.

This work is based on the rich tradition of Kalighat painting of the 19th century when the life of devotion and the life of everyday people intersected. To be sold in the Kali temple, colonial Calcutta, such artworks were no longer the visual representations of the world; they were considered the means of the connection between the god and the worshipper.

In its vivid lines and flowing shapes, with all their emotional richness, this reprint maintains the freshness of the folk tradition of Bengal, and has been carefully preserved over many years under the auspices of Sir Monier Monier-Williams, in his cultural journey of exploration in 1883-84, and now re-awakened by the valiant effort of Somarasa in his Kalighat Revival series.

This piece of art was printed on 350 GSM high quality matte paper in A3 size, much more than just a decoration, but a heritage to history, spirituality, and artistry that will make it part of your holy place.

On this 2nd day of Navratri, ask the Brahmani energy to enter your home, a reminder that it is creation starting with calmness, and power starting with wisdom.
शक्ति केवल बल में नहीं… ज्ञान में भी होती है।

Happy Navratri from Somarasa | Day 1 – The Beginning of Her Arrival

Something more than a festival, with the first day of Navratri comes upon us...
it begins a homecoming.
It is the holy emotion of Āgamanī -the coming of Maa Durga to her place on earth. Not like a distant goddess, not like a warrior who went out to battle, but like a daughter who has come back to her family.
During this religious scene, she comes gracefully on her lion, with a little Ganesha on her arms, a symbol of new births and warmth. There is no fear in the air, but love, because women have come forward to embrace her, like a daughter is embraced after a long voyage.
Shiva stands behind her, quietly watching her back as she comes back to Kailasa. And beyond, even the heavens appear to wait... as though the whole world were one of this reunion.
Navratri is not only about शक्ति, as Āgamanī, we need to know.
it is about संबंध.
Not only devotion... but feeling.
On this first day when Maa comes...
open your doors as a home to her.

माँ आ रही हैं… क्या आपने अपने दिल के दरवाज़े खोले?

They say opposites do not go together...
But suppose that they were never opposite after all?
At one time, with the majestic pace of the universe, conservation and destruction confronted each other.
Not as adversaries... but as images.
And in that moment
they didn’t fight…
they merged.
Harihara was born.
One-half Vishnu... calm, composed, the giver of all breaths of life.
Half Shiva... passionate, fearless, consuming the no longer useful.
One is holding the shankha and chakra...
the other has trishul and damaru on him...
But both just strike to the same heavenly truth -
there is never an ending, everything is changing.
Now pause for a second…
Your life- your fears, your development, your misfortunes-
Isn’t it the same dance?
You try to hold on…
Life asks you to let go.
You try to control…
Life teaches surrender.
And somewhere in between…
You find your balance.
It is not just a poster put on a wall.
It’s a mirror.
There was a reminder each day that disorder and tranquillity,
continual flow and cease,
are not separate chapters…
they are the same story, viewed on both sides.
Designed on high quality 350 GSM archival matte,
each details in this A3 art work have depth, devotion and eternal philosophy.
For your meditation space.
For your room.
For your inner journey.
The day you realize Harihara...
is the day you cease to struggle with yourself.

Some presences just cannot be observed but experienced.
Imagine a quiet morning.
You have a ray of sunlight in your room, which is soft and caresses the walls. The world is still. Your thoughts are scattered. And then… your eyes meet hers.
Maa Saraswati -sitting on a flowering lotus, in the spell of her veena.
At that point, something changes.
The noise fades.
The mind settles.
And wisdom starts to stream... not as a force, but as a calmness.
This painting is filled with that feeling.
Kalighat artists were born in the holy by-lanes of Calcutta in the 19th century and they didn’t only paint because it was beautiful but they painted to worship. These paintings were previously possessed by pilgrims who came to the Kali temple with blessings to their households. And in their midst this calm image of Saraswati was a representation of wisdom, art, and inner understanding.
The century later this same work of art was found in the archives of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford - a silent testament to the artistic soul of India. Now it comes back to you... not as history, but an experience.
Every detail you see —
her smooth eyes, the smoothness of the veena, the blooming lotuses beneath her, is not mere design.
It is intention. It is energy.
This A3 poster is more than just a decor as it has been printed on high quality matte paper (350 GSM) and refurbished with accuracy.
It is made a part of your everyday life.
Put it in your study... and sense concentration.
Put it in your workplace and creativity will run.
Set it in your house... and warm rest peacefully.
Maa Saraswati does not simply bring good luck in the form of knowledge.
She shows you the way to feel it.
• This one is to the student who is pursuing dreams.
• To the artist who was seeking expression.
• To the soul in search of calmness.
A rare Kalighat revival.
A timeless presence.
A fragment of the India soul - now willing to form a part of your history.
Bring home wisdom. Bring home grace.
