Nagpur's parking system is set for a major overhaul 🚙
Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin has directed officials to map major roads, identify available spaces and create planned parking facilities to tackle rising traffic congestion. The civic body will also take strict action against illegal parking that continues despite authorised parking facilities.
A comprehensive parking management and traffic planning action plan will be prepared to improve traffic flow across the city.

A major road upgrade has been proposed for the 4.7-km stretch of Katol Road (NH-353J) between Katol Naka and New
Katol Road Naka, with two flyovers planned to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity.
First flyover: About 950 m, covering the section from Gittikhadan Square towards the Amravati Road side.
Second flyover: About 950 m, proposed near the Manewada-Manikapur Ring Road junction, allowing through traffic to bypass the busy intersection.
The project is based on a grade-separated flyover model, aimed at reducing cross-traffic delays while allowing local traffic to continue at ground level.
The Ring Road will also be strengthened as a
four-lane road.
The proposal has been submitted by NHAI to
the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) and is currently awaiting approval.

Nagpur corporators face heat over alleged illegal constructions. Following a Bombay High Court intervention, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has directed councillors to submit approved building plans for their homes. Those who failed to attach valid plans to their election affidavits, or carried out construction beyond approved limits, could face action under the relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act.
With the possibility of disqualification looming over councillors who constructed buildings without sanctioned plans or exceeded approved limits, NMC has instructed Assistant Commissioners of all zones to coordinate and take necessary action. Several corporators have reportedly started approaching civic offices to submit proposals for approval or revision of their building plans.

Nagpur CNG Pipeline Work Stalled: GAIL's gas pipeline project has been halted at three locations due to pending NHAI permission. Approval was withheld over incomplete restoration work, including drainage issues and unfilled excavation pits. The Bombay High Court's Nagpur Bench has summoned the Traffic DCP and an NMC assistant commissioner over persistent traffic congestion and encroachment in Dhantoli-Ramdaspeth. A joint inspection will examine traffic movement, parking arrangements, one-way routes and illegal roadside parking.

Nagpur's fire safety compliance raises serious concerns
Since
2015, the Fire Department has issued primary Fire NOCs to 4,538 structures, but only 803 have received the final Fire NOC. Meanwhile, 828 structures are still under construction, while the department has disconnected water and electricity connections of 54 structures in 2026 for fire-safety violations.
Building owners are required to install appropriate fire-safety systems and comply with prescribed norms to obtain the final NOC. Those failing to meet requirements are issued notices and given time to rectify violations.

Nagpur's Fire Department has issued notices to 30 hospitals in Civil Lines and Sakkardara for violating mandatory fire-safety norms. Authorities have ordered disconnection of electricity and water supply under Section 8(2)(c) of the Fire Safety Act.
Civil Lines recorded the highest number of unsafe hospitals, followed by Sakkardara and Lakadganj.
Citywide, 48 hospital buildings have been declared unsafe.
