Scale and Function
Once a modest storage area in a former tailoring boutique, the space has been thoughtfully reimagined as a striking double-height lounge. A full-height charcoal shelving unit anchors the room, complete with a sliding wooden ladder—both functional and evocative of classic library charm. The back of the shelving is wrapped in Nicobar's signature printed wallpaper, adding texture and character.

Soft, diffused uplighting filters through white wood rafters, while bounced track lighting subtly illuminates the vertical surfaces, enhancing the architectural drama without overwhelming the space.

A warm wood floor lends natural richness underfoot, complemented by a spacious sectional sofa that encourages comfort and conversation. A wall-to-wall mirror expands the perception of space, amplifying light and scale to complete the transformation.

Design Narrative

A thoughtfully curated aesthetic blending mid-century modern sensibilities with warm, contemporary functionality. The space celebrates the richness of custom wood furniture, elevated by playful yet sophisticated colour accents in berry red and sage green.

Intricate black and white mosaic tiles add a timeless graphic element, creating texture and visual rhythm.

Soft, diffused lighting enhances the warmth of the materials, promoting a calm and inviting atmosphere. Functional zones are seamlessly integrated — from a printer and stationery station to a chic powder room.

This is a space that feels like home, where individuals work and inspire, both modern and personal, with every detail considered and crafted to support everyday living and work.

Soft Pastels
A spiral staircase in muted sage rises through a space defined by clean lines, metal, and glass—modern materials softened by natural light and the warmth of wood.

Upstairs, a walk-in closet features a patterned floor in morning blue and sage. The design is calm and understated, with soft-edged central cabinetry and generous storage hidden behind seamless taupe wardrobes.

The adjoining bathroom continues the pastel palette, with powder pink walls, a soft blue floor, and refined rose gold accents. The space is designed as a quiet, private retreat—elegant, gentle, and serene.

Layout and Flow of Spaces

The ground floor follows a linear plan, thoughtfully divided into fluid, interconnected zones. Entry begins at a striking black-and-white checkerboard verandah, which sets a bold yet classic tone. This space leads seamlessly into an open meeting and collaborative work area, unified by a smooth concrete floor that enhances the sense of continuity.

A central spine organizes the space efficiently, housing work desks, a printer station, and an open pantry. This axis guides the user toward a dramatic, double-height lounge and workspace—anchored by a full-height bookshelf that doubles as both storage and sculptural feature. Warm wooden flooring in this area provides a tactile and visual contrast to the concrete, adding a sense of comfort and grounding.

An existing spiral staircase has been reimagined as a sculptural element, finished in a soft sage green to create a subtle focal point. This staircase ascends to a private mezzanine, designed as a discreet retreat for the client. It includes wardrobes, additional storage, and a powder room, offering functionality without interrupting the openness of the main space.

A Transformed Space

This project is an ode to designing and giving life to redundant old small spaces by reviving and celebrating their original structure.

Nestled in the heart of one of the busiest markets in Delhi, this rectilinear structure of 600 square feet on the ground floor was re-designed to fit the needs of an office space with a working, meeting and a lounge area. An open pantry and a small yet vibrant powder toilet with an open study space become the central core of the space, connecting the front meeting space and the rear lounge area. Each surface is made functional, and every corner utilized.

Design Highlights
• Façade: Charcoal-toned arched openings paired with fluted glass strike a balance between openness and privacy.
• Ceiling: The original red sandstone slab roof is exposed and celebrated as a central design element.
• Volume & Light: The lounge area’s low ceiling height is reimagined by breaking through a former mezzanine, drawing light in from newly opened rear apertures.
• Storage: A continuous wall of shelving houses books, art, and archival materials—serving both function and form
• Warm of wood furniture
