JD(U) leaders say unacceptable to sell liquors in the departmental stores
In response to a Joint statement issued by the J&K administration, Party President G M Shaheen , Secretary General Mirza sajad , State General Secretary Vivek Bali , State Organiser Khurshid Naqati , State IT Cell incharge Liyakat Ali said that the sale of alcoholic beverages in supermarkets means young people will be more frequently exposed to alcohol companies’ branding and logos,” he said. “Alcohol advertising exposure has been shown to increase early initiation of alcohol use and increased alcohol use. It can also foster brand allegiance, a factor that has been shown to lead to increased chances of young people consuming alcohol.
“There is currently not enough research to support the sale of alcohol beverages in supermarkets. Children and young people may be buying these products from their local store, some of which do contain small amounts of alcohol. But more importantly, researchers do not yet know what impact consuming zero-alcohol beverages in childhood will have on subsequent alcohol use.”
JD(U) Other leaders urged the administrative council to revoke the decision of selling this RTD(ready-to-drink). J&K has been always a religious state and it’s against our religion. Other states like Bihar, Gujrat, Nagaland, and Lakshwdeep are going for banning alcohol, the same way we are also demanding the ban of alcohol in J&K.
