Kailash Parikrama – Day 2 🙏🏻
Dirapuk to Zuthuphuk ! 4th June
The most challenging and transformative day of the Kailash Parikrama.
A 26 km journey through snow-covered terrain, crossing the mighty Dolma La Pass (5,630 m / 18,471 ft), the highest point of the Parikrama, where the air is thin and every step tests your strength, patience, and determination.
After a night of snowfall at Dirapuk, many yatris were advised to return due to difficult weather conditions. Having just recovered from a throat infection and a 5-day course of antibiotics, my family too urged me not to take the risk. Yet, with Mahadev’s blessings, I decided to continue, taking a horse up to Dolma Pass.
The cold was intense. We had to wear 5 layers of warm clothing, yet the freezing winds pierced through. The harsh weather and high altitude left our skin badly tanned, and even the skin on my nose cracked and peeled due to the extreme cold.
The climb was tough, the path slippery with snow, and many pilgrims walked with oxygen cylinders and tubes. But the breathtaking Himalayan views made every challenge worthwhile.
At Dolma La Pass, I got down from the horse and began the steep descent. On the way, I witnessed the divine and completely frozen Gauri Kund—a sight beyond words. Remembering the sacred stories of Maa Parvati and Lord Ganesha, I offered my prayers and moved ahead.
The remaining trail through streams, grasslands, sometimes crossing the Icy path and stunning valleys was simply magical. After the descent, coz nobody allowed to ride horse while descending, my horse was given to a fellow yatri who was exhausted and struggling. Sometimes the greatest joy lies in giving. 😊
From 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, every step was accompanied by one mantra:
🕉️ Om Namah Shivaya 🕉️
Day 2 was not just a trek—it was a test of courage, endurance, faith, and surrender.
It was not my strength that completed this journey. It was Mahadev who carried me through every step, every breath, and every challenge.
Forever grateful. Har Har Mahadev! 🙏🏻🕉️
