According to a recent study, most of the new launches in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) were in peripheral areas and accounted for 56% of the total new launches. Shahapur, the largest taluka in Thane district, is surrounded by the mountain ranges of the Western Ghats. The Government of Maharashtra has declared Shahapur as a hub of tourism as the city attracts a lot of tourists with places like Mahuli Fort, Ajoba Parbat and Manas Mandir. It has four major dams namely Bhatsa, Tansa, Modaksagar and Vaitrana. About 2,900 mega liters of water are supplied to Mumbai every day from Shahapur. Therefore, this city has also been declared as 'No Chemical Zone' by the government. Shahapur is located between the triangle of Mumbai, Nashik and Pune and also falls under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. Under this scheme, the Igatpuri-Nashik-Sinnar Investment Region (INSIR) has been identified as an industrial area and Shahapur is the nearest residential area. Industrial development along with the tourism business has contributed a lot to the growth of real estate in Shahapur .
