Sea Water Pools to come up in Visakhapatnam

For the first time in India, the Vizag beach will soon be dotted with sea pools for visitors to swim casually instead of diving into the risk-prone waters. The decision has been taken in light of the spate of drowning accidents occurring in recent times. Four pilot projects will come up at Mangamaripeta, Lawson’s Bay, Rushikonda and Sagaranagar. Based on the success, more such pools will be created all along the beach road.

What are sea water pools?

Sea water pools are elevated pools constructed on the beach with water filtered from sea. Popular in South Africa and US, the pools there are constructed to regulate the water temperature and protect people from shark attacks.

దేశంలోనే మొదటిసారిగా విశాఖపట్నం సముద్ర తీరంలో సాగర ఈత కొలను( sea pool)లను నిర్మిస్తోంది ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ ప్రభుత్వం. సముద్ర స్నానానికని వచ్చి ఎంతోమంది ప్రమాదవశాత్తు నీటిలో మునిగి చనిపోతున్నారు. గత పదేళ్ళలో 75మంది మహిళలతో సహా 465మంది ప్రాణాలు పోగొట్టుకున్నారు. ఇటువంటి ప్రమాదాలను అరికట్టేందుకు నగరానికి ఉన్న 23 కిలోమీటర్ల బీచ్ రోడ్డు వెంబడి సాగర ఈత కొలనులను నిర్మించాలని నిర్ణయించారు. వీటి నిర్మాణ బాధ్యతను ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ పర్యాటక అభివృద్ధి సంస్థ, గ్రేటర్ విశాఖ నగర పాలక సంస్థల ఇంజనీర్లు చేపట్టనుండగా, రాష్ట్ర పర్యాటక శాఖ నిధులను సమకూరుస్తుంది.
ప్రయోగాత్మకంగా విశాఖ తీరంలోని మంగమారిపేట, లాసన్స్ బే, రుషికొండ, సాగర నగర్ ల వద్ద మొదట నిర్మిస్తారు. దక్షిణ ఆఫ్రికా, అమెరికా దేశాలలో ఇటువంటివి బాగా పేరు పొందాయి. వాటి తరహాలోనే విశాఖ సాగర ఈత కొలనులు రూపుదిద్దుకోనున్నాయి.
