5 THINGS ITALIANS DO DIFFERENTLY

1. EVERY CONVERSATION NEEDS HAND GESTURES 🤌

In Italy, words are only part of the message.

A simple “yes,” “no,” or “maybe” often comes with a full range of hand movements, facial expressions, and dramatic emphasis.

Without gestures, many Italians feel like they’re only communicating half the story.

2. QUEUES ARE SOMETIMES MORE OF A SUGGESTION

The concept of a queue definitely exists.

However, there is often a flexible interpretation involving eye contact, negotiation, and an unspoken understanding of who was really there first.

It may look chaotic, but somehow it usually works.

3. CAPPUCCINO HAS ITS OWN RULES

Order a cappuccino at breakfast and nobody bats an eye.

Order one after lunch and you may receive a puzzled look from a nearby nonna.

Many Italians consider cappuccino a morning drink, while espresso takes over for the rest of the day.

4. PIZZA IS A SERIOUS SUBJECT

Ask ten Italians about the perfect pizza and you’ll get ten passionate opinions.

Mention pineapple as a topping and you may accidentally start a national debate.

Some traditions are simply not open to negotiation.

5. GOODBYES TAKE LONGER THAN EXPECTED

Leaving an Italian gathering is rarely a quick event.

The goodbye often turns into another conversation, then another story, then one final hug, followed by a discussion at the front door.

What was supposed to take two minutes can easily become thirty.

🇮🇹 Italy isn’t just a country—it’s a way of life.

From animated conversations and coffee traditions to family gatherings that never seem to end, these little cultural quirks are part of what makes Italy so charming.

Which one have you experienced yourself? 😄

We have a lot to learn from the Italian way of living. 🇮🇹✨

In the rush of modern life, it’s easy to get caught up in the noise and forget what truly grounds us. In Italy, the art of living—l'arte di vivere—isn't a luxury; it’s a daily practice.

Here are 10 Italian habits that gently remind us what actually matters in life:

☕ 1. Slow Mornings (Il Dolce Far Niente) – Mornings aren’t for rushing. They are for sipping an espresso out of a ceramic cup, listening to the birds, and letting the day find you before you find it.

🍝 2. Long Meals (A Tavola) – Food is never just fuel. A meal is an event, a multi-hour celebration of fresh ingredients, shared stories, and deep connection that cannot be rushed.

🚶‍♂️ 3. Walks Without a Plan (La Passeggiata) – The traditional late-afternoon stroll isn’t for exercise; it’s for wandering the cobblestones, breathing the fresh air, and greeting neighbors. No map, no destination.

🌿 4. Time Outside – Living closely with nature, whether tending to olive groves, sitting under a pergola, or watching the sunset over the mountains. The soul heals outdoors.

👥 5. People First – If an old friend walks by, the work stops. In Italy, relationships, family, and community always take priority over a to-do list.

🛋️ 6. Rest Without Guilt (Riposo) – Taking an afternoon break when the sun is high isn’t considered lazy—it’s considered essential. True rest is respected.

🍅 7. Celebrating the Seasons – Eating what is ripe now. There is a deep joy in waiting all year for the perfect summer tomato, the first press of autumn olive oil, or fresh wild herbs.

🍷 8. The Aperitivo Ritual – Marking the transition from work to personal time with a glass of local wine and small bites. It's a daily boundary that honors the evening.

🏛️ 9. Honoring Heritage – Keeping traditions alive, from regional recipes passed down through generations to preserving centuries-old stone walls. History gives us roots.

🌅 10. Embracing the Present Moment – Knowing that tomorrow will bring its own worries, but tonight, the wine is cold, the company is good, and the view over the hills is beautiful.

At Abruzzo Borgo, these 10 habits aren't just ideas—they are the foundation of everything we build and share. It’s time to remember what matters. 🗝️🏔️

🌾 A Moment of Summer in Abruzzo 🌾

Today the golden oats danced gently in the breeze, creating waves across the hillside as far as the eye could see. Beyond them, the beautiful rolling hills stretch towards Pietranico, one of the many historic villages that dot the Abruzzo landscape.

What is remarkable is how green everything still looks. Despite very little rain in recent weeks and temperatures regularly climbing above 30°C, the valleys and hillsides continue to hold onto their vibrant colours, creating that perfect mix of golden summer fields and lush green countryside.

It’s moments like this that remind us why so many people fall in love with Abruzzo. The space, the silence, the fresh air, and endless views that seem to slow time itself.

Could you imagine sitting here with a coffee, a glass of local wine, or simply listening to the wind moving through the fields? 🍃

🌿 Live from Abruzzo Borgo 🌿

After what feels like weeks of temperatures above 90°F (32°C), today has brought a welcome change.

As we look out across the valley, you can see the clouds slowly rolling in over the hills. For a moment, we thought we might finally get some much-needed rain to cool the land, refresh the olive groves, and give everything a drink after the recent heatwave.

But it looks like the rain may just pass us by.

Still, there’s something magical about watching the landscape change. The cooler breeze, the shifting light on the mountains, and the clouds drifting across the valley remind us how quickly nature can transform the atmosphere here.

The forecast says the heat will return for the weekend, so we’re making the most of these rare cooler days while they last.

Would you rather have sunshine every day, or a good thunderstorm to break the heat? Let us know below. ⬇️
