For new Sicilians.

▶ Relocating to Italy is already appealing. Sicily just added another layer to consider.

▶ Here’s what’s now in place:

✅ A regional incentive now refunds 50% of IRPEF (income tax) paid
✅ That jumps to 60% if you move to smaller towns (under 5,000 residents)
✅ The benefit is capped at €100,000 per year, per person
✅ It runs for 3 years (2026–2028)

▶ But it’s not as simple as just showing up.

▶ To qualify, you’ll need to:

✅ Transfer your tax residence from abroad to Sicily
✅ Generate taxable income in Italy (employment, business, or pension)
✅ Buy or renovate property within 12 months
✅ Maintain both residency and ownership for a minimum period
✅ Avoid overlapping this with other relocation tax regimes

▶ Who tends to benefit most?

✅ Returning Italian expatriates
✅ Remote workers and digital nomads
✅ Foreign investors already considering Sicilian property
✅ Pensioners exploring Southern Italy

▶ There’s also a practical detail many overlook. The tax is paid first through the standard system, and only afterward can the refund be claimed.

▶ And then there’s the strategic layer. Choosing between this and other Italian tax regimes isn’t always obvious and getting it wrong can mean losing the benefit entirely.

▶ This is a general overview. Case-specific details should always be reviewed with an Italian tax expert before making any decisions.

Sehenswert! Und bedenkenswert — nicht erst, wenn man in der Situation ist, dass man auf Hilfe von anderen angewiesen sein könnte. Deswegen ist ein Leben in einer lockeren, gleichgesinnten Gemeinschaft, die man allmählich gemeinsam aufbaut, so wertvoll.
