DISCOVER OUR "LADIN" CULTURE
Not many people consider a vacation in the mountains as a cultural experience. Still South Tyrol/Alto Adige cherishes a rich cultural heritage with its ancient traditions, that tourists can discover and appreciate. In Ortisei you can visit the local Museum, founded in 1960 with a collection of interesting fossils showing the Triassic and Giurassic origins of the Dolomites. Interesting is also the collection of old wooden dolls and toys that you find in the Museum, some are still produced today. You can hear locals speak an ancient language called “Ladin”, of Romansh origin, still taught to children in families and at school. In this Region you can also find many castles and watchtowers dating back to the days in which this territory was part of the Austrian Empire. Most ancient traditions, the architecture and even the local food, show a clear Austrian influence.
