Meet the famous Codice Fiscale — you'll need it for banks, closing, renting… basically everything in Italy. It's not magic: a few letters from your surname and first name, your birth date (they add 40 to the day for women!), a code for your birthplace, and one random final letter. You request it with a simple form to the Agenzia delle Entrate (Italy's IRS). This is one of your very first steps — the course covers every step from here. Despite the name, it has very little to do with how many homes you own. It's a set of conditions attached to the purchase itself, and most foreign buyers learn the distinction exists when the deed is already signed. 😬
