Villa Emera is more than just a residence. It is like a total work of art. It is your home in Rome. Not dreamscape of idleness, but a living home of science and art — much like life itself.”
“In Greek mythology, Hemera, daughter of Darkness and Night, was the personification of Day.
I’m Riikka Vainio, an artist, curator, cultural producer, and general fixer who has been based in Rome for nearly twenty years.
A few years ago, I decided to combine work and pleasure by founding the art-and-science residency Villa Emera in Rome.
Based on my own experience, I felt that Rome lacked a truly home-like private residency space where people could comfortably work, create, and stay for longer periods. Villa Emera is located in the beautiful Appio Latino district, just outside the historic center — a peaceful, safe, and green neighborhood that tourists have not yet fully discovered. The Colosseum is only about 1.5 km away on foot, and public transport connections to all parts of the city are excellent. The area offers wonderful local services, restaurants, food markets, and shops.
Summer in Rome is a particularly lovely time: many tourists and local families head toward the seaside, making the city calmer and more serene. During the hottest hours of the day, you can retreat to air-conditioned museums or enjoy a proper Italian siesta, while evenings are filled with cultural events throughout the city — concerts, open-air cinema screenings, and even Rome Opera performances staged in magnificent archaeological settings.
The apartment has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a large kitchen with a dining table, making it ideal also for groups wishing to rent several rooms together. Fast WiFi and thick walls provide excellent conditions for remote work, and the bookshelves include a large collection of children’s books and board games.
The apartment has partial air conditioning, and through the next door, you can access the building’s shared rooftop terrace, where you can set up a sun chair or enjoy meals outdoors. The nearest outdoor swimming pool is about 1.5 km away, and the beach can easily be reached by local train in approximately one hour. Villa Emera is more than simply accommodation. I also aim to offer guests access to my extensive professional network and holistic consulting within the fields of art and culture. I always find it inspiring to hear about new ideas, projects, and collaborations.
This spring, we also opened a new venue, ContAct Art Project Space, in the very heart of Rome. We welcome proposals for exhibitions, book launches, performances, film screenings, and other cultural events. https://contact.artprojectspace.it/
