The hidden gems of the Caelian Hill

Santi Quattro Coronati is an ancient titular and conventual minor basilica and Augustinian convent.
The church dates back to the fourth or fifth century, and is devoted to four anonymous saints and martyrs.
The complex of the basilica includes two courtyards, the fortified Cardinal Palace with the Saint Silvester Chapel and the monastery with its cloister.

The 29th of December the Cardinal Vicar of Rome opened the Holy Door of Saint John Lateran Basilica, following the starts of the Jubilee 2025 in Saint Peter's Basilica on the 24th of December.
Discover the district of San Giovanni, the Archbasilica-that is also the Pope's cathedral-the Holy Stairs and the Lateran Palace. It will take you just a few minutes!

The Victor Emmanuel II Monument, also known as Vittoriano or Altare della Patria, was built between 1885 and 1935 to honour Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a unified Italy.
It also preserves the Altar of the Fatherland (Italian: Altare della Patria), first an altar of the goddess Rome, then from 1921 also a shrine of the Italian Unknown Soldier (Italian: Milite Ignoto), an Italian soldier fallen during the First World War.
The monument has a wide symbolic value representing a lay temple dedicated to a free and united Italy and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a symbol of all the Italian soldiers killed and missing during the war.

Every year the President of the Italian Republic and the highest government officials pay tribute to the Italian Unknown Soldier and those who died in the line of duty by laying a laurel wreath. The celebrations take place during the Liberation Day (25 April), Republic Day (2 June), and Armed Forces Day (4 November).
