Quick reminder for August pilgrims: Santa Maria Maggiore is 8 minutes from our door. On foot. 🙏

The basilica where Pope Francis rests welcomes visitors through the summer — go early morning, when the light comes low through the doors and the crowds are still at breakfast.

We keep a printed route guide to all four papal basilicas in the apartment. Just ask.

The art on these walls wasn't bought at a store. 🎨

Every canvas in the apartment is an original by painter Marco Strilù: still lifes soaked in Mediterranean light, colors chosen to talk to the terracotta and the vaults of Giancarla's home.

A host who welcomes you personally, and a painter's art on the walls — this is what "not a hotel chain" actually means.

Tonight, all of Italy looks up. ⭐

August 10th: the feast of San Lorenzo, our neighborhood's patron — and la notte delle stelle cadenti, the night of shooting stars. The Perseids peak, and tradition says every star you catch grants a wish.

The legend is beautiful: the falling stars are the embers of Lawrence's fire, lighting the sky every year on his night.

Our tip for tonight: dinner outdoors in San Lorenzo, then find a dark corner — the Verano gardens' edges, or just look up from the street. The neighborhood celebrating its own saint, under his stars.
